BONITA SCAR CLINIC
Sebaceous Cyst & Lipoma Removal
Not squeezed out, removed with the whole sac
Bonita's Approach
Sebaceous cysts and lipomas that keep coming back after removal?
Squeezing out only the sebum leaves the sac behind. We remove the sebaceous sac that causes it.
About
A small incision, removed with the scar in mind
A sebaceous cyst is a sac under the skin filled with sebum; a lipoma is a benign lump of fat cells. Neither goes away on its own, and squeezing or neglecting them leads to inflammation and a larger scar.
Under local anesthesia, the cyst is removed with its sac. Because a remaining sac can cause recurrence, the wall is removed as well, and the incision is kept short along the skin creases.
Because we also run a scar clinic, care continues to the incision line left after removal. Stitch removal and follow-up visits are explained after the procedure.

BONITA SCAR CLINIC
Cleanly removing the sac at the root of recurrence, with a fine scar
Rather than just squeezing out the sebum, we remove the inflamed sac (cyst wall) intact and finish with fine plastic-surgical sutures.
A sebaceous cyst is a benign skin condition in which a blocked sebaceous gland in the dermis forms a sac (cyst) that fills with keratin and sebum.
It can appear in many areas, including the earlobes, neck, chest, back and buttocks.
It does not interfere with daily life, but if bacteria grow it gives off a foul smell, oxidises and darkens until it looks like a mole.
As it grows larger it also becomes unsightly, so early removal is advisable.

Recovery
Right after treatment
The treated area is protected. We tell you when you can start washing your face and wearing makeup, according to the procedure.
During recovery
Redness and swelling gradually subside. Sun protection matters from this point.
As it settles
While the tissue settles, we watch the progress and decide whether more treatment is needed.
Recovery time and follow-up visits vary with the extent of treatment and your individual condition.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can’t I just squeeze it out?
We recommend removing it sac and all. Squeezing may drain the sebum, but the sac remains and can fill up again, and inflammation can make the scar larger.
Will it come back after removal?
If any of the sac remains it can recur, so the sac wall is removed too. We check for recurrence as we follow your progress.
Will a scar remain?
A short incision line along the skin creases remains. This line is then cared for at the scar clinic.
What kind of anesthesia is used?
It is done under local anesthesia. We explain stitch removal and follow-up visits after the procedure.
