Pulling only the skin of a sagging face creates a tense look and stretches the skin in front of the ear into a pixie ear.

A face lift raises and fixes the SMAS layer beneath the skin, so the lift looks natural and lasts.

Not everyone goes through the same steps. Any added treatment depends on how much sagging there is and where the face has hollowed.

Main surgery

Endoscopic face lift

Incisions are made in the crease in front of the ear and inside the hairline behind the ear, and the fascial layer (SMAS) is lifted and fixed. Because an endoscope is used, the incisions are short and swelling and bruising tend to be relatively mild.

When the neck is lifted too, the incision behind the ear is extended.

Because this surgery fixes the fascial layer, it is not repeated as often as thread lifting. The incision marks are then cared for at our Scar Clinic.

When needed
Jaw liposuctionIf there is a lot of fat under the jawline, it is suctioned with a special cannula to define the jawline.
Stem cell fat graftingIf areas such as the forehead or cheeks are hollow, fat is grafted with adipose stem cells.
Dissolvable threadsDissolvable threads may also be added to areas with fine lines, such as nasolabial folds, hollow cheeks or under the eyes.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to have fat grafting with a face lift?

Not necessarily. Surgery that lifts sagging and treatment that fills hollow areas have different purposes. Whether fat grafting is needed is explained after we check where volume is lacking and the change you want.

I’m worried about getting pixie ear.

Pixie ear forms when the earlobe is stretched because only the skin in front of the ear was pulled. That is why we lift the SMAS and close the area around the ear to suit the face, reducing the deformity. We explain the incision site and extent in consultation.

Thread lifting or a face lift: which suits me?

It depends on how much sagging there is and which layer causes it. Early to moderate cases often suit multi-lifting, while deep sagging and neck wrinkles often suit a face lift.

Where does the face lift scar sit?

It remains along the incision at the front and back of the ear and the hairline. We manage it so it becomes less visible over time, and care can also be continued at our Scar Clinic.

How long is the recovery?

It depends on the extent of surgery, and time is needed for swelling to go down. If you have important plans, let us know during consultation.
