Implant revision is not simply swapping the existing implant for a new one.

A capsule (contracted tissue) has often formed around the implant, and the implant may have shifted or show through, with thinner skin and soft tissue, so it has to be approached under different conditions from a first operation.

Bonita's implant revision does not stop at replacing the implant. It also assesses the capsule, soft tissue and any history of inflammation, focusing on restoring a safe, natural nose line.

For You

If these concerns sound familiar

  • If the implant shows through or can be felt
  • If the implant has shifted or looks bent
  • If the area around the nose turns red or inflammation keeps returning
  • If the skin over the implant looks thin or stretched
  • If you want to replace an existing implant safely

BONITA NOSE

Why it shows through: the tissue covering it

Why

Why is implant revision not a simple swap?

01

The cause of malposition and visibility must be examined too

An implant usually shows through or can be felt because its size or material does not fit, or the soft tissue covering it has thinned. We consider reselecting the implant's size and material together with reinforcing the supporting tissue.

02

The approach depends on any history of inflammation or infection

When inflammation or infection is present, the timing of removal and revision must be planned carefully for a safe recovery. With a history of infection, reconstruction centred on autologous tissue may be considered first.

Process

How implant revision proceeds

01

Analysis of anatomical causes and proportions

Design begins with accurate analysis

  • Check of the existing implant type, size and how long it has been in place
  • Check of the capsule and any history of inflammation or infection
  • Analysis of malposition, visibility, and skin and soft tissue thickness
  • Analysis of symmetry and proportions
  • Tailored revision plan
02

Tailored correction centred on cartilage and structure

Tissue condition matters more than simple replacement

  • Removal of the existing implant and contracted capsule
  • Reselecting implant size and material, or considering autologous cartilage (ear, septum, etc.) alongside
  • Repositioning considering the balance of tip and bridge
  • Fine adjustment with symmetry in mind
03

Tissue stabilisation and stage-by-stage recovery care

Results are completed through a stable recovery

  • Care to prevent recurrent inflammation
  • Tissue stabilisation and swelling care
  • Follow-up system
  • Long-term line maintenance

Recovery

  1. Right after treatment

There is swelling and bruising; the nasal splint stays on and cold compresses are used.

  2. During recovery

The splint and stitches are removed. While the main swelling subsides, avoid pressure on the nose such as from glasses.

  3. As it settles

As residual swelling in the tip subsides, the final shape appears.

Recovery time and follow-up visits vary with the extent of treatment and your individual condition.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

My nasal implant shows through. What can be done?
We consider reselecting the implant and reinforcing the supporting tissue, or removing it and rebuilding with your own tissue. An implant that shows through or can be felt often means its size or material does not fit, or the soft tissue covering it has thinned.
Is it enough just to take the implant out?
If only the implant is taken out and the surrounding capsule is left, the tissue can contract again or the nose can look unnatural. We decide on capsule removal and post-removal support together.
Where will the scar be?
For the nose, scars are mostly inside the nostrils or on the columella, and we manage them so they fade over time.
